Choosing the right storage system for you

Whether your starting up or expanding, selecting the correct storage system is critical. Although cost is always a major factor, it shouldn't be the basis for the final decision. Below are a few points to consider:

- What products will you be storing?

- Will your product range expand?

- What is the maximum height you can utilise?

- What is the expected weight per pallet?

Once you have established the basics of what you require, plan for future growth and adaptability based on your specific market.

Small, light weight products such as automotive components, electrical components, stationary and similar products do not require a heavy duty solution. Bolted angle shelving is often used to store these types of products.

These types of shelving are commonly available in different heights and depths but they tend to maintain the width of 914mm.

Should you require something more substantial, APR (Adjustable Pallet Racking) is a good starting point. These systems are designed around company specific requirements. Factors such as total height, beam clearances and pallet weight influence the component strengths and specifications.

APR is often used to store large quantities of palletised goods that are moved and placed with the use of material handling equipment. These systems are extremely versatile and very common in South Africa.
